Outfit: Spring Colors in Winter

Happy Friday everyone!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Holiday so far and is ready for 2013.

With only a few more days before the new year, winter has finally reached us here in Atlanta. Sometimes I find myself gravitating towards dark colors when the weather starts to cool off. Just because winter has arrived, that doesn’t mean the pastels and bright colors have to be put away. Wearing color always brightens my mood.

Who says you can’t wear color in the winter?!

Happy Hump Day everyone!

With only 6 more shopping days left until Christmas, I still haven’t finished shopping. I know what I’m going to buy; I just have to actually go into the store. Now I’m wishing I would have just purchased everything online last week like I started to; but I was trying to hold out to see if the prices went down – they didn’t. I just pray I don’t have to drive all over town trying to find all of my gifts. Wish me luck!

Pera Palace Hotel Istanbul, Turkey – Part IV

The Pera Palace is such a beautiful hotel, I thought it deserved to have it’s own post.  Hotel Pera Palace is a historical and world famous luxury hotel in Istanbul. It was built in 1892 for the purpose of hosting the passengers of the Orient Express and was named after the place it is located. It holds the title of “the oldest European hotel of Turkey”.  Agatha Christie was in fact one of the hotel’s most ardent visitors.  The “Agatha Christie Room”, number 411, is now preserved in her honor.  It is rumored that she wrote Murder on the Orient Express here.

This elevator is still operational; each guest is taken for a ride on this elevator upon checking into their room. There is a more modern elevator located in the lobby for everyday use.

So…while we were behind the rope taking pictures in the elevator – my husband’s idea – we got caught!  The bellhop passed by us and stopped right in front of us. I was sure he was going to tell us to we weren’t allowed to be behind the rope, but he didn’t’. He asked us if we wanted him to take our picture -
Old air vents used when the hotel didn’t have air conditioning and was only two floors.
Tea Room
Agatha Restaurant
The Orient Bar
The Orient Bar Terrace
Indoor pool in the spa

If you ever visit Istanbul, you must make Pera Palace a stop on your tour.

The Liebster Award

Last Sunday morning, I woke up to the most wonderful surprise.  Lauren from Stylelixir nominated me for the Liebster Award! Oftentimes, it is easy to feel a little insecure about putting yourself out there for the world to see; but when you get recognized by one of your peer, it eases your mind and lets you know you are doing something right. Thank you so much Lauren!
What is the Liebster Award? It’s an award for new, up and coming bloggers who have great potential. The word ‘Liebster’ is German and means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lonely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing and welcome. I am beyond thrilled and honored to accept this award and have now nominated 11 other bloggers who I believe deserve a Liebster Award too!
These are the rules should you choose to accept the award:
  • Thank your nominator and link back to the nominators blog in your post
  • List 11 things about yourself
  • Answer the 11 questions I have created for you (below)
  • Create 11 questions for your own nominees
  • Nominate 11 fabulous up and coming blogs with less than 200 followers, tag them in your post and let them know you have nominated them for the Liebster Award!

Eleven Random Things About Me:
  • I am a clothes hoarder. Items come in, but they rarely go out.
  • I was Salutatorian of my high school graduating class
  • I join the Army Reserves when I was 17.
  • Math is my favorite subject.
  • I hate reading, so I listen to audio books.
  • My #1 goal from piano class in college was to learn to play my favorite song, Fur Elise.
  • I hate all things chocolate, but I love brownies – only the gooey, fudgy kind.
  • I wish I could sing.
  • I talk to my mother every single day on the phone.
  • I was a cheerleader in college.
  • I sometimes sleep with a heating pad under my feet, because my feet are always cold.
Questions from my nominator:
  • When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a teacher like my mother.
  • If you had to eat one type of cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be? Prime Rib Steak – Medium, mmmmm!
  • What is your favorite movie? It is a tie between The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption.
  • Where is the best place you have travelled (or would like to travel)? The best place I have traveled by far was Fiji. The whole staff greeted us by name, it was like they really knew us. They also serenaded us with beautiful Fijian acapella songs.
  • If you could only keep one item from your wardrobe, what would it be? This is a very hard question. If I could keep one TYPE of item, it would be heels. I wear them EVERYDAY!
  • What inspired you to start blogging? I have always loved fashion. After my discovery of Wendy’s Lookbook, I thought a blog would be the perfect outlet to share some of my favorite outfits.
  • Are you an early-bird or a night owl? I am neither an early-bird nor night owl; I am stuck somewhere in the middle.
  • Name something on your ‘bucket list’Adopt a child. I have always wanted to give at least one child the gift of family.
  • What is your lucky number? 5
  • For everyday jewelry, do you wear silver or gold? Mostly gold.
  • What do you hope will be waiting for you under the Christmas tree? A new camera lens; I have my eye on the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4
Questions for my Nominees
  • Why did you start blogging?
  • What goals do you have for your blog in 2013
  • How would you describe your style?
  • What is your favorite season of the year?
  • Where would you go on your dream vacation?
  • Mac or PC?
  • What is your dream job?
  • If you could see what it was like to be anyone for a day, who would you be?
  • What is your favorite TV show?
  • If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
  • If you could have ANY profession, no matter the salary, what would it be?
Thank you again Lauren for your nomination. Go on over and check out my nominees; you will not be disappointed!

Turkish Delight – Part III

Let me apologize in advance for this post being to pic heavy; I didn’t want to leave anything out. I hope you enjoy!
Grand Bazaar

Boat Ride on the Bosphorus
The Bosporus is a narrow straight that separates the European and Asian part of Istanbul. It is claimed that the Bosphorus is the source of Noah’s flood and the legend of Noah’s Ark.
top: Levis denim shirt | dress: Target (worn as a skirt) | bag: Betsy Johnson (seen here and here) |shoes: ASOS worn (here and here) accessories: Michael Kors watch, rings and earrings, Target belt and scarf
…the Asian side of Istanbul…
Istiklal Street
Taking a stroll along the city’s popular Istiklal Street is something that never gets old. This three-kilometer long, pedestrian-only avenue on the European side of the city, is one the most famous streets in Istanbul. It is the heart o shopping, entertainment, nightlife in the district of Beyoglu. There were an endless variety of both local and international stores, bookstores, cafes, restaurants, food stalls, chestnut vendors, bakeries, bars, clubs, tea houses and so much more lining both the street itself as well as the dozens of tiny lanes that branch off on both sides.

This was the local street dog, and this was our third time seeing him walking the streets. This time he was doing his roll over trick for food. From how fat he was, it looked like he is very well fed from all of his hard work entertaining on Istaklal Steet.

Hagia Sophia
Hagia Sophia  was built in 532 by the famous byzantine emperor Justinian I. It was used as a patriarchate in the first years of its founding. After the conquest of Istanbul by Fatih Sultan Mehmed, Hagia Sophia was converted into a mosque. It is now a museum. Hagia Sophia is accepted as one of the 8th wonders of the world.

Blue Mosque

The Blue Mosque, also called Sultanahmet Camii in Turkish, was built between 1609 and 1616 years, during the rule of Ahmed I.  The mosque is known as the Blue Mosque because of blue tiles surrounding the walls of the interior design. Just like many other mosques, it also holds the tomb of the founder, a madras, and a hospice. The Blue Mosque is still an active mosque, so it’s closed to non worshippers for a half hour or so during the five daily prayers.

Turkish Rugs
We were showed examples of authentic handmade Turkish rugs and were able to compare them to the counterfeit cotton versions. It’s hard to believe these rugs were all made by hand. The detail in the pattern of all the rugs was astonishing. My favorites were the red, ladybug dyed rugs. The colors were so rich and luxurious. For only $10,000 I could have brought one home…LMAO! Yeah, right!

We were served this Turkish apple tea while we were viewing the rugs. It was the best tea I have ever tasted in my life. I kick myself every time I think about not bringing any back.

Istinye Park Mall
This mall was amazing. It had every kind of store you could think of: Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Gucci, H&M, Zara, and everything in between.
